Take the Challenge

“The mountains, the forest, and the sea, render men savage; they develop the fierce, but yet do not destroy the human.” ~ Victor Hugo

“To be challenged by Nature and stand the test is to survive.

To be challenged by our inner nature and allow, relax, and release is to grow and flourish.

Every thought, every action and reaction, every incident and occurrence is a test as to whether we are truly living or just surviving.

So in the struggle, and within the fight, remain human, and thank God for the savage within with a spirit of tenderness, gratitude, and understanding.

As a mother wolf whose wild instinct is to relentlessly hunt, provide for, and protect her pups with an unapologetic fierceness – so feed and defend your soul.  For this fierce growth is the stuff of life.”

Confront. Allow. Release.

“No matter how sophisticated you may be, a large granite mountain cannot be denied –
It speaks in silence to the very core of your being” ~ Ansel Adams

There are some things you just know that you know that you know.

Nature has spoken and it is so.

No words, no instruction book, no advice from a parent, teacher, mentor, or friend can persuade or dissuade you otherwise.

Trust that knowing, and accept with the simplicity of a child.

 Be still and know.

“It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.” ~ Sir Edmund Hillary

Have you ever noticed how the very thing that symbolizes majesty, beauty, grandeur, inspiration, peace, and renewal, is the symbol we reference when speaking of a challenge or obstacle we need to conquer or “get over” in our lives?
The sheer massiveness, of this immoveable force can both, inspire and intimidate, draw and repel, challenge and taunt the humanness in every one of us.
A mountain can no more conquer you than can a cloud, or a raindrop, or pinecone. It is a thing. A part of this world, and therefore, the Universe. A part of you, and of me, and of the hiker a mile up the trail in front of you. It is the thought of the mountain, or rather, the mountains of thoughts that daily conquers each of us if we let them. In just relaxing, allowing, observing, noting, releasing and letting go do we summit and conquer.
Climb. Rest. Celebrate.

Mountain Cathedrals

Mountains are the cathedrals where I practice my religion” ~ Anatoli Boukreev

There is something so sacred in the solace and solitude found in the forests and peaks that tower into the blue.

Spiritual thoughts come easier here, finding their way deep into the heart’s roots.  Anything less vanishes like smoke, leaving a pure trail of sheer joy and happiness.

Peace is the norm, and worries are but vapor. Maker and made converse wordlessly, naturally, effortless, like children breathing.

Once every morning the sun lights the cathedral with its amber smile, and eventually gives way to a million starry candles completing the circle of worship. The world is once again restored and the promise of perpetual life fulfilled.

Pray. Breathe. Smile.

The Mountains Are Calling

The mountains are calling and I must go.” ~ John Muir

Can you hear it? Your heart’s desire is crying out to you. The home of beauty and grandeur, love and simplicity, joy and tranquility. Snow-capped peaks. Winding rivers crashing through rugged canyons. Damsel flies dancing over trout-filled waters. Aspen, juniper, cedar and spruce. Cabins that smell of logs and chimney smoke. The whisper of the wind through the pines. The whir of faery-like hummingbirds. The cry of the Eagle over the ridges, and the scurry of tiny life on the pine-needled forest floor. Elk sharing a meadow with Western Tiger Swallowtails, and big horn sheep decorating the rocky hillside. Crisp clouds over pristine lakes.

This is home.  See it.  Feel it.  Breath it all in…

It’s time to come home…

Retreat. Reflect. Refresh. Relax. Restore and Renew.
